Falaari aloo paneer tikka is a grilled potato and cottage cheese skewers made without using onion and garlic and is perfect to enjoy during fasting.
What is Falaari Tikka?
Falaari tikka is tikka/grilled skewers that are perfect to enjoy during fasting. When we are fasting for certain festivals, we often don’t consume onion, garlic, and some other ingredients. So these aloo paneer tikka are the best for those such days when you want to indulge in yummy food without compromising the taste.
Basically you can make this tikka with whatever ingredients you consume while fasting. As we only prefer milk products and root vegetables, so I make it with potato an paneer only.
Ingredients Needed for Aloo Paneer Tikka
- Potatoes: Boiled and cubed potatoes are used in this recipe. Try to use the potatoes which can hold the shape after boiling just like salad potatoes.
- Paneer: I have used fresh home made paneer, you can use store bought as well.
- Spices: Red chilli, garam masala, coriander powder, and dried mango powder. We don’t consume turmeric while fasting so I have not added it. But if you prefer you can add it.
- Herbs: Coriander leaves, mint, ginger and green chillies to make a paste
How to make Falaari Tikka?
Just like normal paneer tikka, we are going to marinate the potato and paneer cubes in spices, yogurt and aromatics paste. So first of all, make a paste of ginger, coriander leaves, mint, and green chilies. Add the spices and salt in potatoes and paneer, followed by the paste made and yogurt. Mix gently to combine everything. Let it marinate for at least 2 hours.
Once marinated, roast/grill the tikka in a skillet or grill pan until golden and crispy from all sides. Remove from heat and enjoy.
Serving Suggestions
Serve the aloo paneer tikka with yogurt mint chutney, mango smoothie, or spiced lassi. If you consume vegetables like bell peppers, etc in fasting you can add them as well. When preparing them for normal days, when you are not fasting, add the onion-garlic paste and your favorite vegetables in it.
