What is Chutney?

Chutney is a condiment or sauce mainly used in Indian cuisine. The word chutney is derived from Hindi word ‘chatna’ that basically means, to lick or eat with a good appetite.

Chutneys are not only important condiments for starter or snacks but play a significant part of the main course as well. Chutneys usually contain a mixture of spices and herbs or vegetables.

Traditionally, chutney was made by grinding with pestle and mortar, but nowadays we use a blender to save time and effort.

The combination is irresistible and it is mainly paired with pulao, biryanis, veg thali, paratha, and chaats. Freshly prepared chutney with mint leaves gives a very refreshing aroma and flavor.
