Bread Pakora

Bread pakora or fried sandwich bread in gram flour batter is quick to made snacks.Normally, we like to eat the stuffed ones but sometimes the simple fried bread would do the magic and makes our breakfast tasty and filling.

This is a lighter version of bread pakoras without any stuffing .To add a twist in taste I have added carom seeds and fenugreek leaves that gives a unique taste and also makes the fried bread pakora easy to digest.

Ingredients Needed for Bread Pakora

  • Sandwich Bread: White sandwich bread tastes amazing in bread pakora. You can use any bread, whole wheat, or multigrain.
  • Gram Flour: Besan/gram flour to make the batter for frying the bread.
  • Spices and Salt: Red chili, garam masala, and carom seeds.
  • Oil: Oil for deep frying, any oil with a high smoking point.
  • Coriander leaves: Adds a nice refreshing flavor in the pakora.
  • Green Chilli: Tastes just amazing in bread pakora.
  • Baking Soda: To make the pakora fluffy and soft yet crispy.

How to make Bread Pakora?

Step 1. Make batter- Mix all the ingredients for batter and make a smooth batter. Keep the batter aside.

Step 2. Deep fry– Heat oil in an open-faced wok or pan. Make sure to keep the heat on medium. Cut the bread slices into halves or triangle shape. Coat one slice at a time in the batter from all sides. Depp fry in medium hot oil until golden and crispy from both sides. Drain on a paper towel.

Step 3- Repeat – Repeat the same procedure as in step 2 to make the rest of the bread pakora.

Serving Suggestions and Variations

Serve the bread pakora with chai and mint chutney or ketchup. For a variation, you can also add some chopped onions in the batter. You can also make the stuffed bread pakora with potato or paneer filling.

Pro Tips

  • Make the batter medium-thick consistency, it should not be too thick or thin.
  • Always keep the oil on medium heat. If the oil isn’t hot enough the bread pakora won’t cook properly. Or if it is too hot they will be cooked from outside only.
  • Make sure to add baking soda as it helps in making fluffy bread pakoras.
  • Adjust the spices and salt as per your taste.
  • Make the batter only when you are ready to fry the bread pakora.
