Yellow Moong Dal Ladoo-A very delicious, melt in the mouth and yet slightly grainy laddo made with roasted split yellow moong dal. These ladoo taste just amazing and once you start eating you won’t stop at one.

When I saw the moong dal laddo at Bhawana’s space I immediately bookmarked to try them. And I knew I would be posting it in the mega-marathon under Indian Sweets theme.

These moong dal laddoo is so easy to make and need only three basic ingredients and viola you have a tempting dessert ready to devour in just a few hours.

The basic part is the soaking and drying of dal and it really gives a nice texture to the ladoo. Once you get that part done, the ladoo are so easy to put together.

This was my first attempt to try ladoo with dal and I have seen many bloggers posting ladoo with different dals. I now know the procedure and how delicious they taste I shall be trying more soon throughout the year.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cup split yellow moong dal
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 3/4 cup ghee
  • 1 teaspoon green cardamom powder

Instructions

  • Wash and soak moong dal in enough water to cover for about 3-4 hours.
  • Once soaked, drain the dal and dry it with the kitchen towel for a couple of times until all the moisture is gone.
  • Heat a heavy bottom pan and add the dal to it. Dry roast the dal on low heat until slightly golden in color and a roasted aroma comes out from the pan.
  • Cool the roasted dal and then grind into the powder using a coffee grinder.
  • Transfer the powdered dal into a mixing bowl. Add the powdered sugar, cardamom, and ghee and mix well.
  • Make small lemon sized balls from the mixture and store in airtight container.
  • Serve and enjoy.

Notes

Dry the dal completely before roasting.
If the mixture seems dry add a tablespoon of milk to make the ladoos.
Store the ladoo in an airtight jar and they stay fresh for a week.

  1. Ladoos making is a passion for me , and even though we have no ladoo eaters at home , I still find reasons to make. This ladoo is tempting me , it is so well made. Will wait for the perfect season to make these.

  2. Moong dal ladoo is a new addition to my recipe repertoire. Love recipes, especially desserts with few kitchen staple ingredients. On my must try list.
