Oats are incredibly healthy whole grains with tons of health benefits.
- Oats have a well-balanced composition of carbohydrates and fiber along with Vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.
- They are packed with a special group of antioxidants especially present in oats and helps in lowering blood pressure.
- Oats help in controlling weight loss, reduces blood pressure, reduces cholesterol, and improve the immune system to fight diseases.
- They are naturally gluten-free and helps in relieving constipation as well.
- Oats helps in reducing weight and keep you satiated for long hours.
Ingredients
Basically you only need three ingredients to make this porridge.
- Oats: Porridge oats, steel-cut or old fashioned oats.
- Milk: I prefer whole milk but you can use low fat, skimmed milk, or even any plant-based milk as well.
- Sweetener: Sugar/honey or maple syrup.
Did you Know?
Oats are used as food for livestock and only 5% of the crop is consumed by humans.
How to make Porridge
To make the creamy porridge, all you need to do is cook oats in milk, until they are soft and creamy. Add in cinnamon, honey, and chia seeds and mix well. Serve warm or chilled.
Pro Tips
I love adding some chopped fruits and nuts on top of my porridge. You can add any fruits, seeds, nuts, or dried fruits of your choice.
Make sure to cook the oats on ow heat, as sometimes they then to stick on the bottom of the pan.
To save time, you can always cook oats in water and then add the milk. Oats cook faster in this way.
Alternatively you can soak the oats in milk and make overnight oats porridge.
Serving Suggestions and Variations
Serve the oatmeal porridge with fruits, nuts, seeds, or dried fruits. You can also add some chocolate powder, fresh fruits compote, jellies, and jam, etc. Pair the oats porridge with broccoli toast, blueberry smoothie or mango smoothie to make a filling breakfast.
