Paneer Bhurji

A very simple and easy dish made with scrambled paneer, tomatoes, and onions. Paneer bhurji is so versatile that you can use it as a sandwich or wrap filling as well.

What is Paneer Bhurji?

Paneer bhurji is basically scrambled Indian cottage cheese cooked in tomato onion and spices. The word bhurji means crumbled , so paneer bhruji is crumbled paneer dish.

This is very popular in North India and makes a wonderful alternative for egg bhurji. For those who don’t consume eggs, paneer bhurji is the dish that is close to it.

Basic Ingredients for Paneer Bhurji:

  • Firstly, Paneer-Homemade or store-bought.
  • Tomato, Onion and Green chillies-Tomatoes adds a nice tang, onions balances the sweetness and chilli for some heat.
  • Ginger and Garlic-Brings nice flavors.
  • Spices-A combination of turmeric, coriander, red chili, and garam masala is used in the dish.
  • Coriander leaves-Adds a nice freshness.

How to make Paneer Bhurji?

The process of making paneer bhurji is very simple. All you have to do is saute onions, and tomatoes along with spices until they are soft. Ad d the paneer and cook until it combines with spices and tomato onions.

Finally add lots of chopped coriander leaves and enjoy the bhurji with hot chapati.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve the paneer bhurji with paratha, chapati, or butter bread. You may use it as a sandwich toast filling, make a wrap or Frankie roll.

Equipment

  • Pan

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cup cottage cheese/paneer crumbled
  • 2 finely chopped onions
  • 2-3 finely chopped tomatoes
  • 2-3 green chilly chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ginger grated
  • 1 teaspoon garlic grated

Spices

  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chilly powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • salt to taste
  • 4 tablespoon oil
  • few chopped coriander leaves

Instructions
 

  • Heat oil in a non stick pan ,add chopped onions. Sauté for 2 minutes until onions are soft.
  • Now add green chilies and ginger-garlic. Stir and cook for a minute.
  • Add all spices and salt and mix well.
  • Now add chopped tomatoes ,sauté till oil comes out from the edges of the pan.
  • Add crumbled paneer, mix with spices. Cook for 5 minutes.
  • Transfer to serving bowl , add chopped coriander leaves.
  • Serve with chapati , paratha ,bread or as a wrap filling.

Notes

  1. Adjust the amount of chilli as per your taste.
  2. I have used homemade paneer, you can make it with store-bought paneer as well. Soak the store-bought paneer in hot water for a few minutes. remove from it and then crumble.
  3. You may also add bell peppers and green peas in the paneer bhurji.
