Aloo ki Tehri

Aloo ki Tehri is a spicy and tasty potato and rice dish that tastes just amazing with some raita and salad.

What is Tehri?

Tehri or Tahri is the most popular rice-based dish of Awadhi cuisine and is made all over the country. Even the minimal spices add such nice flavor and taste to the dish that you don’t need to add any other thing.

We love this aloo ki Tehri with some masala buttermilk and salad and viola a very super quick lunch or dinner is served without any fuss.

Basic Ingredients for Tehri:

The basic ingredients to make there are listed below.

  • Firstly, Rice-Use basmati rice to make the tehri.
  • Aloo/Potato-I prefer using salad potatoes as they hold the shape even after cooking.
  • Whole spices-For those delicious flavors.
  • Tomato-To adds tanginess in the rice.
  • Onions-For subtle sweetness.

How to make Aloo ki Tehri?

Aloo ki tehri is very easy to make, the process starts with sauteing onions and spices in oil followed by adding tomatoes and potato. Once all the ingredients combined and tomatoes are tender.

Finally, add the soaked and drained rice, enough water and adjust the seasoning. Cook until rice are done, if using pressure cooker cook for one whistle, if using a pan with absorption method, then cook until rice is tender.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve the there with raita, Papad, chutney, and pickle.

  1. This is a super delicious one pot dish Sapana. I make it this way for my kids lunch box, but mostly with pureed ingredients as they don’t like all those extras for them to pick out..very nice one!
