Sweet Kuzhi Paniyaram-A soft and delicious sweet Paniyaram, made with fermented idli dosa batter, jaggery, coconut and a dash of cardamom.
Recently I started making big batches of idli dosa batter to be used up for a few days and the remaining I am freezing to use later. So I had some idli dosa batter and wanted to try something sweet using it and that’s when I tried this sweet paniyaram.
My girls love the sweet paniyaram as evening tea time snack and just gobbled as many as they could. Funny thing is I did not even have to ask them to try, as soon they smelled the cooking batter they just love it.
I think I am now going to try these whenever making the idli dosa batter as it seems like a nice idea to use the leftover batter rather than always trying the regular kuzhi paniyaram or something else.
Being a north Indian, I find it really hard to get the perfect consistency of the idli dosa batter and my idlis seldom turn out good otherwise always a flop. Nevertheless, I keep trying every fortnight to make a perfect batter so can make some soft idlis and other South Indian delicacies with the same.

Can guess how it will be hard for you to get prefect soft idlies. Keep on trying Sapana, am sure a day you will nail them prefectly. Sweet paniyaram looks absolutely alluring, even i can gobble few without any complaint.
Looks very good, Sapana. My little one loves these sweet paniyarams and thanks for reminding me that it has been a while since I made these.
Paniyarams are my favorite either it’s sweet or savory. Just few days before, i have prepared them, but still look at the picture, i’m craving for some now. Perfect made , looks delicious !!!
Sweet paniyaarams are always a huge hit with the kids. Between you don’t need to freeze the batter sapana. If you refrigerate after the fermentation, it stays good for up to one week. I am sure you would have read all the tips, go with the ratio of 4:1 ( 4 cups of idli rice and 1 cup of urad dal) Adding a handful of poha and 1 tsp of methi helps for soft idlis. Hope this helps.
Sweet paniyarams is something that I have never tried, but they look really good and I bet perfect for those with a sweet tooth.
Sweet paniyaram look so so good Sapana. They are perfect as a quick snack or even as breakfast. Good one.
This is my all time favorite and i use palm jaggery instead of jaggery .Such a yummy treat!!
Wow. Interesting recipe.. good with tea
Making idli batter is an art and I am sure you will nail it. I remember those days when I used to struggle to get the right consistency. The sweet paniyaram made with idli batter looks awesome and it is sure to please kids. My daughter is also a great fan of sweet paniyaram.
I’ve yet to make sweet paniyaram. I seem to forget when I have some batter left and just go ahead and make the savory version. Getting the batter consistency is difficult but I usually leave it thick rather than thin. With thick one can add water but if it becomes thin than that’s a problem.
This is a wonderful snack, especially with idli batter..I guess your climate plays a great role in getting the correct consistency..I am sure you will be able to nail it soon!

My kids love sweet paniyaram and I always make it for them for evening snack. I make it with wheat flour and jaggery. I have never tried making sweet version with idli batter. Will try some next time.
I have never made the sweet version paniyaram. They look perfect for kids.
My kids love the savory paniyarams and I too make it with the left over batter. They are not fans of the sweet version. But planning to make this sometime so they can see the difference.
The smell of jaggery and coconut cooking together is one of the delicious aroma!!! These cute paniyarmas looks inviting, nice idea to add jaggery to idly/dosa batter!
