Mini Punjabi Thali

This is the everyday mini Punjabi thali that we love making on hot summer days at our home. Basically, it consists of one dry sabzi, one gravy dish or lentil, any flatbread or paratha, sometimes it dals contains rice, chaas, salad, pickles, and chutney, not to forget papad.

The preparation is quite simple as you only have to cook a few things. Most of the time we get leftover dal from the previous night so what I do is just give it a nice chilli – cumin – ghee tadka and that’s all for it.

So as dal is ready, I would quickly make a dry aloo capsicum sabzi which takes a few minutes only. Roti or paratha is again easy as the dough is always ready in the refrigerator. In this thali I made all paratha as I had some potato stuffing left from the breakfast

I always have a batch of mint chutney in the refrigerator and some fresh yogurt which I whisk and make masala chass in the afternoons. Pickles are there in the pantries so the last thing left is making a salad of whatever vegetable I have in the fridge.

Papad is mandatory for the two papad fanatics at my house-my elder one and Mr. H so other than that all is done in less than an hour and a mini thali is ready.

Before you all think of how good I am for making such nice thalis for the family let me stop you right there, I am super lazy and make this kind of thalis only on two occasions- one if I want to have an elaborate meal and two if I have to cook for the blog.

Even the family knows me and as soon as I start feeding them such meals they would ask- ye blog ke lye tha na??

This every day thali has-

Moong Sabut Dal

Aloo Shimla Mirch Sabzi

Carrot Beet Salad

Aloo Paratha

Masala Chaas

Amla Pickle

Mint Chutney

Papad

  1. I can understand this as a food blogger, we make elaborate meals only for the blog! Lol. The thali looks so yum Sapana. Though I prefer simple meals, I always love to look at elaborate thalis..

  2. Comforting punjabi thali. My folks are crazy for punjabi food.
I get the same questions from my family when a thali is assembled formally and set at the table 🙂
