Millionaires Shortbread

Millionaire’s shortbread is also known as caramel shortcake, popular for its three rich layers of shortbread, caramel, and chocolate. The recipe of millionaire’s shortbread includes only five ingredients – sugar, butter, condensed milk, chocolate, and flour. It is a perfect dessert, fit for any festival and occasion.

These shortbread are super easy to make and tastes absolutely divine. You can’t stop with one slice, they are so addictive.

Ingredients Needed for Millionaires Shortbread

  • All-purpose flour: Plain flour or all-purpose flour to make the shortbread layer. You can also use ready-made shortbread cookies to make the base.
  • Sugar: Brown and castor sugar for shortbread and caramel layer.
  • Butter: Unsalted butter to make all those rich layers.
  • Condensed milk: Sweetened condensed milk
  • Chocolate: Dark or milk chocolate for the top layer.

How to make Millionaires Shortbread?

Step 1. Make Shortbread– In a mixing bowl add 75 g sugar and flour and 175g of butter. Mix until crumbly and then make the dough. Transfer the dough into a parchment paper-lined 8×8″ square baking tray. Spread into an even layer.

Prick with a fork and bake in a preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes. Let it cool and set it aside.

Step 2. Make Caramel Layer– In a saucepan add 100 butter and brown sugar. Mix well and let the sugar and butter melt. Now add condensed milk and let it cook on medium-high until thickened.

Pour the caramel over the cooked shortbread layer. Let it set in the refrigerator.

Step 3. Make Chocolate Layer– Melt 200g of chocolate over a double boiler. Pour this melted chocolate over the caramel layer. Spread evenly on the caramel layer.

Let it set in the refrigerator.Cut into squares, serve, and enjoy.

Serving Suggestions

Serve the millionaires shortbread with a cup of tea or coffee. Treat yourselevs a big slice after dinner as dessert.

  • Make sure to not over bake the shortbread layer.
  • Let the shortbread cool completely before adding the caramel layer.
  • Keep the caramel layer in the refrigerator to set.
  • Use a knife washed with hot water to slice the shortbread.
