Masala Oats Khichdi

Healthy and filling masala oats and moong dal khichdi that would make a nice and filling lunch for busy weekdays.

Oats are generally considered a health food, being very nutritious and have one cholesterol lowering effects.So considered it benefits, porridge oats are must in our breakfast daily without fail.Sometimes I would love to add seasonal fruits, dry fruits, and nuts to make it more healthy.

My daughter loved her porridge oats with a spoonful of Bournvita powder, that’s her unique way of eating it. Well, that is regular but sometimes I like to make savory masala oats with veggies and spices.

Oats Khichdi

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1/4 cup yellow moong dal
  • 1 carrot chopped
  • 1/4 cup peas fresh or frozen
  • 1 tomato chopped
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 2 green chillies chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ginger grated
  • 1 teaspoon garlic grated
  • few curry leaves

Spices

  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon red chilly powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • salt to taste
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 2 cup water

Instructions
 

  • Dry roast the oats in keep aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan and add ginger, garlic and curry leaves.Stir and add green chilli and chopped onions.Fry the onions for few minutes.
  • Add carrots and peas.Cook for a minute or two and add chopped tomatoes.
  • Then add all spices and salt.Finally, add 2 cup water and moong dal. Cook for a whistle or until dal is tender if using a pan on simmer.
  • Once dal is done, add oats, stir and cook for 5-7 minutes or till all water is absorbed.
  • Remove from heat and serve warm garnished with chopped coriander leaves.

Notes

Use your favorite vegetables to make the khichdi.
