Kala Chana Pulav | Black Chickpea Rice

Every Saturday I make Black Chickpea curry and this is the only fixed menu for every Saturday night dinner.Sometimes when I soak the chana , I would increase the amount to be used to make chaat or rice for Sunday morning. So this morning I made kala chana pulao for CCChallenge .This is the way my MIL used to make and I tried to made just like her.We loved this rice with mint chutney but this can be served with Raita or pickle.

This is a simple and filling one pot meal filled with protein and carbs.So let’s start the recipe.yum

Ingredients:
1 cup basmati rice
1/2 cup black chickpea ,boiled
1 red onion,sliced
1 tomato,chopped
2 green Chilli,chopped
2 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
1 teaspoon cumin seeds

Whole spices
2 bay leaves
4-5 cloves
4-5 peppercorn
2 cardamom
1 cinnamon stick

Spices & salt
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon red Chilli powder
2 teaspoon coriander powder
1 teaspoon garam masala
Salt to taste

Few coriander leaves,chopped
4 tablespoon oil
2 cup Water or as required

Method:
Wash and soak rice in 1 cup water.
Heat oil in a pressure cooker and add cumin seeds and whole spices.Stir for a minute.
Add onions and ginger -garlic paste. Cook till onions are brown.
Now add tomatoes ,green chilli and spices and salt.Cook till tomatoes are soft and oil comes out from edges.
Now add drained rice and stir for 2 minutes.Finally add boiled kala chana and 2 cup water.

Cook for 1 whistle ,open the lid and add chopped coriander leaves.

Enjoy!!

Serve hot with chutney.

Serve-2. Cooking time-20 minutes
