Jal Jeera Recipe

Jal Jeera is a refreshing and spicy drink made with fresh herbs, lemon juice, and chaat masala. It is often served with small deep-fried gram flour balls called boondi.

What is Jal Jeera?

Jal Jeera is spicy and refreshing herbed water made with cumin and spices. The word “jal” means water and “jeera” represents cumin seeds. This is a very popular summer drink in India and commonly available as street food/drink throughout the month of summer.

Serve this refreshing drink with deep-fried tiny gram flour balls called boondi.

Basic Ingredients for Jal Jeera

  • First, Herbs- I have used mint and coriander leaves.
  • Ginger-Adds a nice kick.
  • Green chilli-To make it spicy and hot.
  • Lemon juice-For that tanginess in jal jeera.
  • Spices- I have used salt, black salt, red chilli, amchoor powder, roasted cumin powder, and chaat masala to make the jal jeera.
  • Ice cubes- Optional

How to make Jal Jeera?

Jal jeera is very easy to make, all you need to do is grind the coriander, mint, ginger and green chillies to a paste. Add desired amount of water, spices and lemon juice. Add ice cubes and serve right away topped with crispy boondi.

Store the ground paste of herbs in refrigerator and use as desired.

Serve the spicy and refreshing jal jeera and enjoy summers.

Equipment

Ingredients
  

  • 1/4 cup mint leaves
  • 1/4 cup coriander leaves
  • 1 ” ginger piece
  • 3-4 green chillies
  • juice of one lemon

Spices

  • 1 teaspoon roasted cumin powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder
  • salt to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon black salt
  • 1 teaspoon amchoor powder
  • 1 teaspoon chaat masala
  • 1/4 cup boondi
  • 4 cups water or as required
  • Ice cubes optional

Instructions
 

  • Make a paste of coriander, mint, ginger, and green chilies using 1/2 cup of water.
  • Into a mixing bowl add the ground paste, spices, salt, lemon juice and mix well. Add 4 cups of water and ice cubes if using.
  • Finally, add boondi and serve all jeera right away.

  1. Adjust the amount of chilli and spices as per your taste.
  2. You may also add some tamarind paste in it.
