Indian Style Masala Bhutta

Masala Bhutta or Ubla hua Bhutta is a very scrumptious and tempting Indian style masala sweet corn. This sweet corn makes a wonderful and healthy snack.

Masala Bhutta

Bhutta or Challi is the Hindi word for corn or sweet corn and it is a very popular street snack in India during summer or monsoon days. Most of the time it is available roasted on coal heat and smeared with lemon juice, salt, and chilli powder.

Some vendors in Delhi sell boiled sweetcorn drizzled with spicy tamarind paste and it taste absolutely divine. If you will try it once than you’d want to try it again and again.

I used to enjoy them as much as I could throughout the summer season. Whenever we would go out in the markets to shop, we’d always buy the boiled masala corn from the local street vendors.

  • Tamarind-Adds the nice tang to the sweet corn.
  • Spices-Few spices like cumin, chaat masala, and red chilli powder.

How to make Masala Sweet corn?

The masala boiled sweet corn is really easy to make. All you need to do to make it is boil the sweet corn first. Now make the tamarind sauce by cooking it with spices and water and finally smear the sweetcorn in this sauce.

Serve the sweetcorn warm as they taste best when served warm.

Serving Suggestions and Variations

This sweet corn doesn’t need any accompaniments to serve with. However, if you wish to you could pair it with Blueberry lemonade, Dalgona Coffee or Jal Jeera.

For variations you can also use lemon juice instead of tamarind paste. There’s also mexican sweet corn if you would like to try.

I love corn, especially if it’s made in Indian style. However, I never tried it with tamarind, sounds so delicious-can’t wait to try.
