Ingredients Needed for Apple Turnovers

  • Puff pastry: Homemade or store-bought puff pastry sheets.
  • Apples: Granny smith or red apples, peeled, cored, and roughly chopped.
  • Cornstarch: To find the apple stuffing.
  • Brown sugar: Adds a nice sweet taste and balance the tartness of apples.
  • Vanilla extract: For flavors.
  • Butter: Unsalted butter to make the stuffing.
  • Spices: Grond ginger, nutmeg, and cinnamon
  • Lemon juice: Optional

How to make Apple Turnover?

Step 1. Preheat Oven and make Stuffing– Preheat oven to 180 degrees C°. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Thaw the puff pastry sheet as per package instructions.

In a pan melt butter. Add apples and cook for 2-3 minutes. Add cornstarch, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and lemon juice. Stir and cook for a minute. Remove from heat and add vanilla extract.

Cool the stuffing.

Step 2. Stuff and Bake– Cut 8-12 equal-sized squares from the puff pastry sheet. Place 2 tablespoon of filling in the center of the square. Fold the pastry diagonally and press. Use a fork or knife to seal the edges. Transfer on a baking sheet, make 2 -3 slits on top, and brush with butter.

Bake in preheated oven for about 18 to 20 minutes or until golden. Remove from oven and cool the turnovers.

Sprinkle icing sugar or drizzle some glaze.

Serving Suggestions

Serve the apple turnovers with a cup of coffee or enjoy them as it is. They taste absolutelly amazing when served warm.

Store the leftovrs in cling wraps and warm them in oven or MW before serving.

  • Make sure to thaw the puff pastry if uring frozen store-bought ones.
  • Keep the filling cooled before stuffing it in the pastry.
