United Kingdom’s Christmas Plum Pudding


For the next alphabet we are now in United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland commonly known as United Kingdom or Britain is situated in the northwest part of Europe and is the sixth largest economy in the World.The cuisine is described as “Unfussy” based on the local ingredients and available sauces to enhance the flavors.
 I made the traditional british christmas plum pudding by steaming and without using butter or oil. It was full of flavors and amazingly delicious .This was the first dish that I made for this mega marathon . So let’s start the recipe . yum

Ingredients:
200 g plain flour
1/4 cup cocoa powder
1/4 cup sultanas
1/4 cup raisins
1/4 cup currants
1/4 cup prunes
1/4 cup apricots
1/4 cup almonds
1/4 cup walnuts
1 teaspoon allspice
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon powder
1 teaspoon baking powder
3/4 cup sugar
1 cup breadcrumbs
2 apples,grated
1 large carrot, grated
1 cup milk
1 orange, juice and grated zest
1 teaspoon lemon zest

Method:

Chop and soak all the dried fruits and nuts in orange juice for overnight.
In a mixing bowl , add sifted flour, all spice , cinnamon powder baking soda, sugar and cocoa powder. Stir and add bread crumbs , carrot , and apples.
Mix and add milk ,lemon zest , orange zest and the soaked fruits and nuts along with the juice.
Grease pudding basins with butter or oil and line with butter paper.
Pour the batter in the basins and cover the top with butter paper. Cover it again with aluminum foil.
Attach a thread or string all over the basin to hold , boil water in a steamer.
Carefully place the pudding basin in steamer and cover it.
Let it steam for 15 minutes on high heat and then from 3-4 hour on low heat.
Check for water level in between and add more if required.Remove from heat and let it rest in the steamer.
Remove from steamer , cool and carefully take out from pudding basins.

Slice and serve.
Store it in refrigerator and warm in oven or steam again just before serving.
It can be eaten for few days.
