Onion Paratha Recipe is a simple yet very delicious onion paratha also known as pyaz ke parathe is one of the popular Punjabi breakfast recipes which tastes just amazing with some yogurt.
Onion paratha is one of my favorites as it is super simple and taste so amazing. You basically need only onions and wheat flour, so when you run out of options to make something for breakfast or lunch, just make these parathas.
If you are a regular reader of my blog you must know that I love parathas for my breakfast. I mean seriously, I would live by eating only parathas. That being said I know most people think paratha being unhealthy or guilt food. I think it depends on how you make and eat it.
What is Paratha?
Paratha is basically a wheat flour flatbread made stuffed or plain and normally consist of layers. According to Wikipedia, the name paratha is a combination of “parat” means layers and 2atta” means flour.
Normally ghee or oil is used to make the paratha and is served as a popular breakfast dish with tea or yogurt and pickle.
We Indians love our parathas, either stuffed with cauliflower (gobi paratha), paneer or just plain layered one (lachha paratha), it is pure bliss.
Basic Ingredients for Paratha
- First, Wheat flour
- Onion
- Green chilli
- Coriander leaves
- Oil/Ghee
- Spices
How to make Onion Paratha?
The process is really simple, you basically add all the ingredients in one bowl, knead the dough and make parathas. But there are few tips and tricks to make delicious onion paratha.
First of all, try to use red onions instead of yellow or white ones. Red onions taste way better in the parathas. Second, make sure to chop the onions real fine to ensure they won’t come out while rolling the parathas.
Now the rest of the work is really simple, and as I said before simply knead the dough, make round balls and roll the paratha in the desired shape like round, square oval or triangle.
