Moong Chilka Dal | Split Green Gram Dal

Moong Chilka Dal is one of the comforting dal that tastes wonderful with steamed hot rice and roti. There is nothing more you will need other than this perfect combo.

Moong Chilka Dal:

Moong chilka dal is split green moong dal cooked with minimal spices, tomatoes, garlic, and ginger. This is a very comforting dal that pairs very well with rice and makes a nice and filling meal.

Apart from most of the other dals that I cook this one takes less time and is very light and filling as well. Moong Chilka Dal is my little one’s favorite and she would love to eat it even without tempering.

Basic Ingredients for Moong Chilka Dal:

  • Firstly, Split moong dal-Wash and clean the dal thoroughly before cooking.
  • Tomato-Fresh or canned tomatoes.
  • Green chilli-To add a bit of heat.
  • Spices-Coriander, turmeric, and red chilli powder.
  • Garlic and Ginger-Adds a very nice flavor when sauteed in ghee.

How to make moong chilka dal?

This dal is super easy to make. First of all, pressure cook the dal with a pinch of salt and turmeric. Later make the tempering by sauteing the ginger, garlic, and tomatoes with spices in ghee. Finally, pour the tempering over the cooked dal, simmer for a few minutes, and dal is ready to serve. Add freshly chopped coriander leaves and enjoy.
