Mohanthal

Mohanthal is a traditional Gujarati gram flour fudge ,occasionally made on festivals like Diwali .It is a chewy and melt in mouth kind of sweet.

Ingredients
4 cup besan/gram flour
2 1/4 cup clarified butter /ghee
1/4 cup milk
2 teaspoon cardamom powder
1/2 cup almonds,chopped

For sugar syrup
2 cup sugar
1 1/2 cup water

Method:
Grease a square baking ray or a round thali with ghee or butter and set aside.
In a mixing bowl take gram flour.Add milk and 1/2 cup of ghee in it.
Mix with hands till crumbly.
Sift the crumbled besan and set aside.
Heat remaining ghee in a high bottom pan or wok.Add the sifted gram flour slowly,stirring continuously on medium heat.
Meanwhile in another pan add sugar and water.Let it boil and than simmer for 10-15 minutes or until one thread consistency reached.
Keep roasting and stirring the besan until it becomes golden and a nice roasted smell comes out.Add cardamom powder and half of the nuts.
Now slowly add the sugar syrup in besan , stirring continuously and cook for 2-3 minutes more.
Pour the besan mixture in the greased pan .Sprinkle the remaining chopped almonds.
Let it cool a little before making square cuts.Once completely cooled run a knife again on the precut marks.
Remove the pieces and store in airtight container.
Serve and enjoy!!


Serve- 20 -22 pieces Cooking time-45 minutes
