Red lentil whole dehusked (Masoor lentil) dal ,very lite and proten rich nutritious recipe preapred in India and neighbouring coutries one of the commonly known Indian Dal (Lentil curry). Usually eaten as main course with rice, chapati or any other bread. Whenever you are tired or don’t want to eat heavy, want something lite and delicious then the Masoor Dal can fulfill your need. Act as a source of essential amino acids leucine and isoleucine, they have aslo been categorized as one of the five healthiest food. The recipe is made with asafotida and other spices giving a distinct aroma and taste rejuvenating your taste buds. I must say it is a mood changing preparation, will definitely make you happy. Ingredients:
Whole Masoor dal (Red Lentil dehusked)-200 g
Garlic cloves (chopped)-4 in no’s
Green chilly (chopped )-3 in no’s
Tomato (chopped)-4 in no’s
Asafetida-1/2 pinch
Nigella seeds-1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds-1/2 tsp
Brown mustard seeds-1/2 tsp
Spices:
Turmeric powder-1/2 tsp
Coriander powder-1 tsp
Salt to taste
Red chilly powder-1 tsp
Clarified butter-3 tbsp
Chopped coriander-a handful
Method:
Wash and cook Masoor dal with 1/2 tsp salt and 1/2 tsp turmeric powder for 3 whistles in pressure cooker.
Heat a wok or pan ,add asafetida ,cumin seeds,brown mustard seeds and nigella seeds. Sauté for 1 minute.
Add garlic and stir till golden.
Now add all spices and salt (don’t add turmeric again as we have already added at the time of cooking dal) ,mix well.
Add chopped tomatoes and chilly. Sauté till ghee comes out.
Add this tempering to cooked dal.Let the dal cook for 10 minutes more.
Remove from heat add chopped coriander leaves.
Serve hot with butter and rice.
Serve-4. Cooking time-40 minutes
