Strawberry Labneh

A healthy creamy and tasty strawberry labneh with rose cardamom and strawberry flavours is a perfect and guilt-free dessert to enjoy with or after the meal.

I can’t believe this is the last week of Protein rich dishes and seriously it looks like just a few days before we started the month-long marathon. Time surely flies like a bird.

So after posting breakfast, snacks and main course this week I shall post desserts recipes. As you all know that from past few months we are avoiding sugar so this strawberry labneh doesn’ t have any sugar in it but frankly speaking you won’t miss it. The strawberries I used in the recipe were super sweet and of course, there is natural sweetness from labneh.

The recipe is adapted from BBCGoodFood Magazine the original recipe used honey to sweeten the labneh. So if you guys want then go ahead and used sugar or honey in the labneh to make this dessert a real sweet treat.

For us, it was a bliss without sugar too. I made this dessert this weekend while we were fasting and the flavours from strawberry, rose and cardamom made it a heavenly treat.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups full fat yougurt
  • 1 cup strawberries
  • 1 teaspoon cardamom powder
  • 1 drop rose essence
  • 1/4 cup pistachios, chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon lemon juice

Instructions

  • Tie the yoghurt into a muslin cloth and place it over a bowl in the refrigerator for 4 hours to overnight.
  • Collect all the labneh from muslin cloth and use the whey water to make curries or soups.
  • Chop the strawberries and crush them with the back of spoon or fork and add a teaspoon of lemon juice.
  • Into the labneh stir in rose essence cardamom powder and strawberry puree.
  • Fold everything gently and add chopped pistachios.
  • Spoon labneh in serving dishes store in the refrigerator until use.
  • Serve strawberry labneh garnished with pistachios and strawberry slices.

Notes

You may serve the labneh sprinkled with olive oil, salt and pepper if desired.
I did not use any sugar as my strawberries were sweet but you may add some sugar while crushing the strawberries.
The original recipe used a tablespoon of honey in the labneh but I skipped, as always you may add the desired amount of sweetener into it.

  1. Labneh and strawberry garnished with pistachios ! The name itself sounds exotic , so very Middle Eastern. Definitely very elegant , heavenly and divine . Loved everything about it .
