I am not a soup or rasam person but I did enjoyed this tempting rasam with some steamed hot rice and loved it. It’s been a wonderful three days cooking from +Kalyani MomChef blog and I really enjoyed the every bit of it. Thanks Kalyani for such wonderful recipes , though I haven’t cooked all the recipes I bookmarked from your space but will definitely try them some other time . The clicks are not so good as these were taken at 8:15 pm in the backyard , I will try o update them soon.So let’s start the recipe. Yum
Ingredients :
2 tablespoon Toor /Arhar Dal
2 Tomatoes , chopped
1/4 cup Tamarind pulp
2 teaspoon Rasam Powder
To grind :
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 teaspoon coriander seeds
1 Dry Red chilly
1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder
1/4 teaspoon Asafetida
Salt to taste
3 -4 teaspoon clarified butter
For Tempering :
1 teaspoon Mustard seeds
Few curry leaves
Few coriander leaves(I didn’t use )
Method:
Heat a an and dry roast cumin seeds , coriander seeds and red chilli. Grind in a spice grinder to form a powder along with rasam powder and asefetida .
Wash and soak dal for 15 minutes and pressure cook with a pinch of turmeric and a teaspoon of oil for 2 whistles adding 3 cups of water.
Sieve dal from water and put the water aside for further use. Mash the dal lightly separately with spoon.
Heat butter in a pan and add mustard seeds and curry leaves .Add chopped tomatoes and cook till mushy and ghee separates from tomatoes.
Add the mashed dal ,salt, and tamarind pulp . Mix well and add the water separated from cooked dal .
Now add the spice powder grind with rasam powder , stir and let it cook till water boils .
Remove from heat , add coriander leaves and serve hot with steamed rice or as it is.
Enjoy!!
Serve-4. Cooking time -25 minutes

although I have had a few different rasam variations, this tangy one I've never had and looks so good
