Kanda Poha

We are in the second week of BM#35 , and my theme for the week is cuisine from any region or Regional Cuisine with course specific . I ended up my search to Maharashtra and will be posting three recipes from the cuisine .

For the first day I have prepared Kanda Poha , literally means flattened rice prepared with onion. It is most likely served with tea and usually prepared in Maharashtrian families to offer to guests. This dish is also served when two families meet. Kanda Poha is very easy to prepare and is a perfect dish for breakfast as well . So let’s start the recipe . Yum

Ingredients:
1 1/2 cup poha/flattened rice
1 onion, chopped
1 green chilli,chopped
1 teaspoon mustard seeds
2 tablespoon peanuts , dry roasted
8-10 curry leaves
1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon sugar
salt to taste
2 tablespoon oil
1 lemon
Few coriander leaves, chopped

Method:

Wash and rinse the poha in water till soften . Heat oil in a pan , add mustard seeds and as it started crackling add onion , cook for a minute and then add curry leaves and green chillies. Sauté till translucent .
Add turmeric powder, salt and sugar , mix well. Now add roasted peanuts and drained poha . Give a nice stir and cook for 3-4 minutes more.
Squeeze juice of one lemon and garnish with chopped coriander leaves.

Serve hot and enjoy.

Serve-3. Cooking time -15 minutes
