Gujarati Dal


A mild sweet and sour lentil preparation straight from the cuisine of Gujarat.Easy to prepare and very comfortable lunch or dinner recipe.Let’s start the recipe.yum


Ingredients:
1/2 cup Toor dal/arhar dal/pigeon pea
1 tomato,chopped
2 green chilies,chopped
1 teaspoon ginger,grated
1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon red chilli powder
salt to taste
few curry leaves
2 tablespoon peanuts
1 tablespoon jaggery/sugar
1 tablespoon lemon juice

For tempering
2 tablespoon ghee/clarified butter
1 teaspoon mustard seeds
a pinch aseftida
2-3 dry red chilies

1 tablespoon Coriander leaves,chopped

Method:

Wash and cook toor dal with tomato and 2 cups of water in a pressure cooker for 2 whistles.
Open the lid , mash the dal with the back of spoon.
Add green chilly,ginger,peanuts curry eaves,red chilli powder,turmeric powder ,salt and jaggery.Bring the dal to boil and cook till the desired consistency.
Now heat ghee in a pan,add mustard seeds and saeftida.Let the mustard seeps splutter ,add dry red chilli and remove from heat.
Pour this tempering over the cooked dal.
Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or rotli.


Serve-4 Cooking time-20 minutes
