Rava vegetable upma is a classic rava upma with loads of vegetables and is just perfect to start your day. This is one of the healthiest and delicious breakfast that you don’t want to miss.
Rava Vegrtable Upma
Like the evergreen Rava Upma, we sometimes make vegetable rava upma and it goes perefctly with tea for breakfast.
If you would have asked me about Upma two years ago I would have said, I have had tried it only once or may be twice. But now I make it almost every week and my family just love it. The reason being, when we moved back from the states, we stayed with our friends from Southern India. We got hooked to all the South Indian delicacies like Upma, Vada, different varieties of rice and the best one, Upma which later on became our favourite.
Ingredients Needed to make Upma
- Semolina/rava/ suzi: Coarse semolina was used to make this upma.
- Onion: Red or white onions.
- Vegetables: I have used carrots, beans, sweetcorn, and green peas. You can also use your favorite vegetables.
- Asafetida: Adds a nice flavor.
- Cashew nuts: For that nutty flavor.
- Green Chilli: For that extra spicy kick.
- Spices: Turmeric, cumin seeds, and mustard seeds were used.
- Curry leaves: Fresh or dried curry leaves.
How to make Rava Vegetable Upma
First of all, dry roast the semolina on low heat to make it a little flavorful. Now heat oil/ghee in a wok and saute cumin seeds, mustard seeds, curry leaves, green chilli, dried red chilli, asafoetida, and urad dal. Stir until fragrant and then add cashew nuts and turmeric powder.
Now add the onions and saute until they are transparent. Finally add the vegetables and cook until they are soft. Add water and salt and let it boil. Once the water is boiled add the semolina and cook until the water is absorbed. Remove from heat and serve warm.
Serving Suggestions
Serve this rava veg upma with tea, tomato chutney, garlic chutney, or as it is. You may also serve it with chutney podi or tomato thokku.
