Mini Bread Samosa Recipe-A super crispy, tasty, and very delicious mini version of the classic samosa made using bread slices as the outer covering instead of plain flour.

Bread Samosa Recipe

Samosa is my all-time favorite and I can just live on eating samosa every day. Back in India, we used to have samosa almost every weekend as the street shop was just around the corner and we would easily get the hot fried samosa with tamarind and mint chutney.

There is always a sweet corner in most of the towns or markest in Delhi where you can get freshly prepared samosa. The vendors would start filling the samosa from early morning for the whole day supply and would fry them right in front of you.

Bread Samosa Recipe-2

After moving to Ireland, samosa is one of the food we missed eating. Some days when I would ask what to make for brunch on weekends my daughter would ask can you go and bring Sharma ke Samose. That much she’d miss them.

I also make them at home but the taste of Halwai’s tamarind and mint chutney along with the super crispy samosa is something that can’t be replaced with homemade samosa.

Bread Samosa Recipe-3

Bread samosa is just a variation of regular samosa in which I used the same potato peas filling but used the sandwich bread slices for the outer covering. Well, there are endless options for stuffing the samosa, you can use only peas, paneer, spinach, and corn or dry fruits stuffings too.

To be frank our favorite stuffing is the classic potato and peas and I don’t ever tempt to try any other. Maybe someday I would try any other stuffing just for the blog but until that day comes, let’s just enjoy Samosa.

This is what I made until now for the mega-marathon

Ingredients

  • 12 sandwich bread slices
  • oil for frying

For the filling

  • 4 medium-sized potatoes boiled and mashed
  • 1/4 cup peas
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger grated
  • 1 tablespoon raisins
  • 1 tablespoon cashew nuts
  • 1 tablespoon coriander seeds
  • 1 teaspoon red chilli powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon chaat masala
  • salt to taste
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup coriander leaves chopped
  • 2 tablespoon vegetable oil

Instructions

For Filling:

  • Dry roast coriander seeds in a pan, remove from heat and slightly crush with the back of the spoon.
  • Heat oil in a pan, add cumin seeds and roasted coriander seeds, stir, and ginger. Sauté for a minute.
  • Add all spices and salt, and peas, mix well. Remember to keep the heat low at this moment.
  • Add crumbled potato, raisins and cashew nuts. Mix and cook over medium flame for 5 minutes. Add lemon juice and coriander leaves and set aside.

Making Samosa

  • With the help of rolling pin, press the bread slice in a thin layer.
  • Take a knife and cut the bread slice diagonally to make two triangles.
  • Now fold one triangle from the long side making a cone, use water to seal the sides along the fold.
  • Place a tablespoonful of stuffing in the cone and seal the outer edges by applying some more water. Repeat the same procedure with rest of bread slices.
  • Heat enough oil in a wide pan or wok. Add 5-6 bread samosas into the oil slowly and deep fry them till golden from both sides.
  • Drain on paper towel and serve hot with tamarind chutney and mint chutney and or ketchup.

Notes

Fill the stuffing in the bread cones very gently and fold nicely using water to seal the edges.
If you see some cracks just patch them up with more bread pieces.
Adjust the spices and seasonings as per your taste.
#Instead of deep frying you can bake them in preheated ob=ven for 20 to 25 minutes.

Once i have tried the samosa with bread, but unfortunately it was a total flop, after that i’m afraid to give a try on that. Your samosas are so perfect and i can see the crispiness from the pics itself. Bookmarked to try your version.

  9. The crust looks just perfect, almost as good as the one made from dough! I love such shortcuts to deliciousness. I’m saving this recipe for Ramadan iftar, the time of year when we consume samosas most and when I need quick & easy recipes most too.

  10. Mini samosas are a great way of having a samosa and not feeling to much regret about the calories. Your idea of using bread as covering shortens the process quite a bit.

The raisins and cashews will be such a surprise after the first bite.
