Dalia Khichdi?
Dalia khichdi is one pot meal made with broken wheat and moong dal . It makes a very filling and nutritious meal to enjoy on any lazy day when you are not in a mood to cook elaborate meals.
It takes very less time to put together the khichdi and tastes absolutely amazing too.
Basic Ingredients for Dalia Khichdi:
- Firstly, Broken Wheat- Broken wheat or you can use wheat cream.
- Split moong dal-The green colored split moong dal is used in the dish.
- Tomato, Onion and Green Chilly- Adds a nice flavor in the khichdi.
- Spices-Only salt, turmeric and coriander powder is needed to make the khichdi.
How to make Dalia Khichdi?
Dalia Khichdi is very easy to make, all you need to do is cook onions and tomato in ghee with cumin seeds and spices. Roast the broken wheat with a little ghee before adding into khichdi. Add the broken wheat and dal in it. Cover with water and cook for 2-3 whistles.
Let the pressure release naturally, open the lid and serve the khichdi.
Serving Suggestions:
Serve the khichdi with pickle or yogurt.

Dalia Khichdi
Equipment
- Pressure Cooker
Ingredients
- 1 cup dalia/broken wheat
- 1/2 cup split moong dal
- 1/4 cup green peas
- 1 green chilli chopped
- 1 onion chopped
- 1 to mato chopped
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- salt to taste
- 1/4 cup ghee
- 4 cups water
Instructions
- In a pan add a teaspoon of ghee and broken wheat. Rost the broken wheat until slightly fragrant. Keep it aside.
- Wash and drain moong dal and set aside.
- In a pressure cooker heat the remaining ghee. Add cumin seeds and onions. Saute until onions are slightly golden in color.
- Now add salt, turmeric and coriander powder. Stir and add tomatoes.
- Let the tomatoes soften a bit, and add green peas. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
- Finally, add roasted broken wheat, and drained moong dal. Mix well.
- Add 4 cups of water and let it pressure cook for 2-3 whistles.
- Remove from heat and serve warm with pickle.
