Vegan Tofu Tikka Wraps

Vegan Tofu Tikka Wraps is a healthy and super addictive way to incorporate tofu in your diet. Again being vegan-friendly this dish will surely please all your vegan friends too.

What is Tofu Tikka Wrap?

Tofu tikka is a vegan tofu skewers made with cashew cream and spices and turned into vegan wraps with lots of salad and chutney.

Nowadays eating habits are changing rapidly, more people are turning vegetarian and vegans. Reading all about animal cruelty and the side effects of eating the animal-based diet are making people aware to change.

No offense to the nonveg lovers, but I guess it totally depends on persons’ own beliefs and thoughts to become vegan or continue eating nonveg food. We can not force someone to try nonveg food or become vegan, right?

A while ago when my mom was bedridden and suffering a lot, desperately I was researching the causes of her sickness. I found out about this book by Dr. T Colin Campbell The China Study-The most comprehensive study of Nutrition and diet ever.

This book has all the scientific studies and research data Dr. Campbell studied for over 30 years and how a whole food plant-based diet can reverse most diseases. If you want to know more about nutrition and diest I would highly recommend reading this book and then only you can see the role of diet in another perspective.

We are vegetarians, basically, including the only dairy in our diet. But after reading this book I am trying to cut off dairy as much as possible.

Basic Ingredients for Tofu tikka wraps:

  • Firstly-Tofu, try to use extra firm tofu and squeeze all of the excess water before using it.
  • Cashew nuts-To makes the marinade for the tikkas.
  • Tikka masala-Now here I have used store-bought tikka masala but you may also make it at home.
  • Vegetables-Use your favorite peppers, mushrooms, tomatoes or whatever you would like in your wraps.
  • Tortilla wraps-Use whole what or any other wraps of your choice, you may solo use homemade chapatis.
  • Chutney-I have used mint chutney but you can do with mayo, or any other store-bought sauces too.

How to make Tofu tikka wraps?

The first step is to marinate the tofu and vegetables in cashew cream, spices and tikka masala. Once that is done and rested, make the tikka in oven , or on grill pan.

Now comes the assembling part, take your choice of wraps, assemble the veggies, chutney and tofu tikka. Roll and cut or serve as it is.

Serving and storage:

Serve the vegan tofu tikka wraps with virgin mojito, mango lassi or Iced tea. To store the tikka place it in air tight containers or zip lock and store in the freezer for a week or in refrigerator for 2 days.

Vegan Tofu Tikka Wraps

Equipment

Ingredients
  

  • 200 gm extra firm tofu
  • 1 cup bell peppers, cut in squares
  • 1 cup button mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 onion, cut in thick cubes
  • 1/4 cup cashewnuts
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon tikka masala
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon deggi mirch
  • salt to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • 2 teaspoon oil

Other Ingredients

  • 6 tortilla wraps
  • 1 cup lettuce, shredded
  • 1 cup tomatoes, sliced
  • 1/2 cup onions, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup mint chutney

Instructions
 

  • In a mixing bowl soak cashew nuts in hot water for few hours. Grind into a smooth paste and set aside.
  • In another mixing bowl add cashew paste, salt, turmeric, deggi mirch, coriander powder, garam masala, tikka masala, ginger garlic paste.
  • Add tofu bell peppers , mushrooms and onions and gently give it a stir. Let it rest for at least 30 minutes.
  • Heat a pan and add oil, now transfer the marinated tofu into the pan.
  • Cook on medium flame until golden and crispy from both sides.

Assembling

  • Warm up the tortilla wraps and apply some mint chutney in the center.
  • Arrange a layer of tofu tikka and top it up with tomato, lettuce, onions.
  • Sprinkle lemon juice and roll the wraps. Cut in halves and serve immediately.

Notes

Adjust the spices as per your taste.

  1. Sapna , being vegetarian itself sounds old fashioned and people feel – oh really ! My nephews are hard core vegans and for a while even I felt – why and How ?
    But if you go on to read you realise and understand the facts . I too am trying my best to turn vegan – and tofu seems to be a perfect option . The tofu wraps look real good .
