Urad dal Khichdi

A very simple and wholesome urad dal and rice khichdi. This is one of the quickest one pot rice and lentil dish.

whole black urad dal

cup
rice
1
teaspoon
cumin seeds
a pinch asafetida
1
bay leave
1
black cardamom

ghee
salt to taste

water
Instructions
Wash and soak dal and rice in enough water for 3-4 hours.
In a pressure cooker heat ghee. Add cumin seeds and asafetida. Stir and add bay leave, and cardamom.
Let the seeds splatter for a minute.
Now add the soaked dal and rice with 4 cups of water.Add salt.
Cook for 2-3 whistles. Let the pressure release naturally.
Open the lid and serve the khichdi warm with dollop of ghee.
Notes
Make sure to soak the dal and rice in enough water to ensure they cook nicely.
