red chilly powder
salt to taste

clarified butter+1 tablespoon

water or as required
Instructions
Wash and soak chana dal and rice separately in 1 cup water for 2 hours.
Heat clarified butter in a pressure cooker , add cumin seeds , cardamom , bay leave and ginger strips. Sauté for 1 minute.
Add Chana dal and rice, give it a nice stir.
Now add salt , turmeric powder and red chilly powder. Add 5 cups of water or upto 3/4 level of a 5 l cooker , close the lid and cook for 3-4 whistles.
Remove from heat , let all the pressure evaporates and then open the lid.
Serve hot with dash of more clarified butter.
Notes
It is the simple version , you may add veggies and more spices to make it different.
