Cook washed Toor Dal in 4 cups of water with a pinch of turmeric powder and salt for 1 whistle in a pressure cooker.
Heat ghee in a tadka pan, add asafoetida, mustard seeds, and cumin seeds. As popping starts add chopped onions, sauté for 5 minutes.
Add all spices and salt, stir and add chopped tomatoes and green chilies. Saute till ghee comes out. Pour this masala over boiled Toor Dal and let the dal cook for 8-10 minutes.
Garnish with chopped coriander, green chilly, onion rounds, and garam masala.
For Rice
Heat oil in a pressure cooker, add cumin seeds, sauté and add 3 cups of water.
As water is slight warm add washed rice a teaspoon of salt and close the lid.Cook for 1 whistle.
You can also make jeera rice in open pan but checkout for water according to type of rice.
Serve the comforting toor dal with jeera rice.

Adjust spices as per your taste.Store the leftover dal in refrigeartor.
