Salted caramel sauce is a sweet, chewy, and salty melt in mouth kind sauce that would make any dessert or baked goodie way too tempting that you can’t stop licking.
What is Caramel Sauce?
Caramel sauce is dark orange color sauce made with cooking sugar and is used as a flavouring on puddings, cakes, ice cream, and custards, etc.
It tastes best with cakes, cupcakes, cookies, porridge; or even with ice cream. Make it once and enjoy it for a week or so unless it would last that long because it is too tasty that frankly, I won’t need anything to finish it.
When I made this sauce my girls were eating it with a spoon and they went crazy for it. I literally had to hide the sauce for the pictures. I had this sauce on my to-do list for ages but I never really get a chance to make it.
This week I finally made it for my bookmarks theme and I am so glad I tried it because from now on I am never going to buy caramel sauce from the supermarket. Make-ahead this salted caramel sauce and get ready to enjoy it in the recipes this Halloween.

Ingredients needed to make Sauce
- First, Sugar- Granulated or caster sugar anyone is fine to make the caramel sauce. You may also use brown sugar but the color will be quite dark.
- Butter-I have used salted butter to make this caramel sauce salted but you could easily replace it with unsalted butter and add some extra salt to make it salted.
- Heavy cream-Cream helps in making thee luscious texture and gives amazing taste to the caramel sauce.
How to make Salted Caramel Sauce?
Making caramel sauce at home is so easy that once you make it at home, you’d never buy it from stores. All you need to do is heat sugar until it is caramelised. Add butter and stir again until it satrts settling down. Finally add the cream , it will become frothy.
Continue stirring the sauce on low heat and let the froths or bubbles settle down completely. Transfer it in a jar, cool, and store in the refrigerator.
You could also make salted caramel candies with this homemmade caramel sauce.
Can we make it vegan?
Yes of course, simply replace the heavy cream with coconut cream and butter with any plant based butter.
Serving and Variations
Serve this delicious caramel sauce on top of puddings, pies, tarts, cakes, or ice creams. I could just finish it as such with a spoon. Make caramel cake like this one or drizzle it over your pancakes, the limit is endless.
For variations you could add cinnamon, or five spice in the caramel sauce.
