Mathura ke Pede

Mathura ke Pede are the famous sweet from the holy city of Mathura ,Uttar Pradesh. If you haven’t tasted these delicious pedas , you have really missed one and only heavenly delicacy.

Today ,for Shri Krishna Janamashtmi I made these Mathura ke pede and Kalakand for Bhog Prasad to offer Lord Krishna. This day is celebrated with lots of enthusiasm and fun.Temples are decorated with flowers and lights and there are hundreds of street food markets outside the temples.People visit the temples in the long queues and enjoy the festival till midnight.
At midnight ,the people who were fasting since morning, open their fast after seeing the moon.Gosh we really are missing those fun filled days .

500 gm Khoya /mawa/milk solids,grated
500 gm boora/tagar
2 tablespoon ghee/clarified butter
1/4 cup milk
1 teaspoon cardamom powder

In a heavy bottom pan ,add crumbled or grated khoya.Start roasting it on medium low flame .
After 7-8 minutes it will start changing color.Add a tablespoon ghee at this point and start roasting it.
Stir continuously till it changes color from light brown to dark brown ,adding the remaining ghee in between.
If the khoya seems dry add 1/4 cup milk and roast it again till the milk dries up.
Now let the browned khoya cool a little.
Once cooled, add all boora or tagar ,just left a quarter cup to roll the pedas.
Now take a tablespoon of mixture and roll it in between palms.Press the round balls to make pedas.
Coat the pedas in boora and arrange in a tray.

Let the pedas dry a little and then store in airtight container.
